Jarvis is one of our many swimmers who train exclusively with DARTES. This takes tremendous commitment and personal/family sacrifice. Not everyone is cut out for training 6-8am, then going to school and then going back to train for 2 hours in the evening too - this is what it takes to achieve National qualifying times regularly. Jarvis is doing exactly that. He has qualified for the second year in a row in the 400m Individual Medley and 200m Butterfly. Other Armthorpe swimmers who will be at Nationals this year are Caitlin Dixon and Jamie Clarke.
Dale will compete in the 100m freestyle at NER's. He is currently ranked 15th in the whole of the North East for 14 year old boys, with a time of 1:02.03! Only the top 3 boys in this age group, in this region have gone under the magic minute this year, so the rest of the pack is very close on times. We know how Dale loves a good race, so who knows, at the championship gala he may just be gunning for a top 10 place!
Kelsey made her qualifying time in the 100m breaststroke. Back in February at a short course meet in Harrogate, Kelsey swam a 1:27.15, but is allowed to convert this time to Long Course and enter the NER championships. Although Kelsey hasn't swum the 100m breaststroke long course I believe her stroke is well suited to making the transition and it should be very exciting to see her swim!
Congratulations to all of you. I hope each one of you can build on this success and now step up your personal goals for 2012 to the next level.
