Final BML Gala at Stocksbridge

What a day Sunday 24 June was!!! England win 6-1, England cricketers whitewash the Aussies, the Rugby players beat South Africa and Armthorpe Swimming Club put in a brilliant performance on the final BML to finish 2nd on the day and 2nd in the Division for the year.
Because of so much going on team selection was a bit of a problem but everyone who swam was magnificent. We had two "old guys" Richard Ellis and Adam Burton who bravely stepped into the Open Mens team and both did sub 30 seconds for 50 Free and got applauded onto the bus at the end. We might have been a bit slower on takeovers but we didn't get any dq's so well done everyone. This definitely helped our points situation. For example the 10 year old boys relay teams came 4th but two of the other teams got dq'd in both relays which gave us 6 points instead of 2. Lois had to do 8 swims with Amber being injured and did them without complaint - thanks Lois. Eleanor  did 2 X 50 mtr breastroke back to back races with only the boys event in between, no wonder she was breathing hard after the second one. These were only a couple of examples of the TEAM attitude that was very visible on the day. Lots of great swims that were close but everyone finished strong - maximum effort really was the order of the day and all swimmers did us proud. Do not underestimate how good second place is in this division where the other three teams are City/Town  clubs and Armthorpe definately punched above their weight.
Gala points score was:  City of Sheffield  107    Wakefield  114    Armthorpe  126    Barnsley  137                    Tines are below and I will add the PBs when I get them
Well done I am proud of you all.
