Doncaster Invitation Cup Semi Final at Scunthorpe

Saturday 7 July at Riddings Pool Scunthorpe on a very hot day. The swimming was just as hot as the weather outside. Armthorpe got ahead by 8 points up to the halfway stage but then Scunthorpe pulled the contest back as the slightly longer events kicked in. By the last race there was one point in it and we had to win it to win the gala and go to the final against Adwick. Ben Wright led off and gave us a great start on backstroke, Eleanor followed with a good breastroke leg against a very fast Scunthorpe swimmer and then Lois just about held the margin on fly leaving Sam with the 50 free against a very quick Scunthorpe swimmer the atmosphere was tremendous as he held on and we won the race and the gala. Lots of great swims and good team spirit which was very pleasing. We had some new officials from Armthorpe so my thanks to them and the support from our parents was tremendous as Sam touched in the last race they all stood up as one and cheered. It might have been England scoring a goal!! A bonus was getting back in time to see the second half of the match.
Today made me very proud of Armthorpe - the swimmers, the poolside officials and team managers and of course the parents for their support.
