DMASA 2011 - Gala 1

The METS are one of the biggest galas of the year for most swimmers, with a chance to show off all the hard work we put in at training. This year was no different. There were so unbelievable swims from swimmers and if we do the same at the next gala I will be a very happy captain!

The 9 year old girls were fantastic as usual, with Millie Colbear and Gill Clarke storming ahead the rest of the field. Millie even broke two METS record! She is now the record holder for Breaststroke and I.M. An achievement that very few Armthorpe swimmers have ever done. Let’s see if we can make it a few more! Francesca Skillcorn also did her first ever 100 I.M and won her heat. Well done Francesca! Many of the girls stood out; Rebecca Christmas, Kelsey Wilson and even girls team captain Emma Wright.

Moving onto the boys and again there were some brilliant swims. Dale Marshbank with a convincing win on the 100 backstroke, Jamie Clarke with a brilliant 100 freestyle. But the swimmer who really stood out for me was Harvey Williamson. Harvey was a few seconds off the top swimmers in his age looking at the entry times but he didn't let that put him down. He swam a huge PB and won his heat, fighting off all the competition. Excellent swim Harvey!

Let’s hope for a repeat performance in 2 weeks time. Keep up the good work!

Captain Jack
