For those of you who are newer to competitive swimming in Doncaster, the Bridon Shield is an annual relay competition between Doncaster's feeder clubs. Althought the format has changed somwhat in over time the competition has been going for YEARS!!!
Other winners were;
Boys 9 years medley team of Jamie Whetton, Ben Wright, Ben Wilson and Azriel Chan
Girls 13-14 years freestyle team of Georgia, Morgan, Niamh and Kelsey
Girls 15-16 years breaststroke team of Caitlin, Heidi, Toni and Molly
Boys 15-16 years freestyle team of Jamie, Dale, Mathew and Tom
Mens Masters free team of Kev, Mathew, Richard and Dave
9 years and Masters relay of Casey, Jack, Dave and Tina
Mixed freestyle relay of Ben, Lauren, Callum, Chantelle, Jamie, Caitlin, Dave and Tina
There were also some very, very close races - no fewer than 9 races were the difference between bronze and silver or silver and gold was less than a second. Just goes to show how important the little things are when doing sptint races.
Overall it was a really good afternoon of racing with Adwick taking home the Bridon Shield by a margin of 26 points over second placed Armthorpe, a big improvement from last year for the Kingfishers! The only let down is that the prestige of this gala seems to have been lost, with fewer and fewer teams entering each year... just 6 of the 10 Doncaster swimming clubs entered teams this year and the affects could be seen poolside - there weren't many swimmers around, and that's sad to see.

Seen as this was a relay gala I've selected a team for this gala. It was an easy choice really... they swam amzingly, laughed continually, danced rediculasly and beat everyone else by a good way. The girls team of Gill Clarke, Millie Colbear, Maisy Allott and Charlotte Howard were simply brilliant. Well done girls.
