During the last 12 months many changes have been made by the Club. Friday night has seen the extension into Rookie Lifesaving and we have seen numbers of swimmers increase in all sessions. Speed has seen the introduction of a Masters Section and Sunday training was moved to St James Pool. Sadly, we had to close our Lifesaving Section as it was not financially viable with the only available pool time much too late for swimmers to attend.

We have made a big effort to involve more people in running our teaching and coaching sessions. All poolside staff has either attended ASA approved courses or will do so in the next few months. Our Lifeguards now have a continuous update programme which is run monthly to ensure that our safety standards are at the highest level possible.

We now have a Website – www.armthorpeswimming.co.uk which we will use for communicating with our members. Please have a look at it and let us know what you think of it.

At the recent Yorkshire Championships our swimmers produced some excellent results returning with 33 medals – 12 Gold, 15 Silver and 6 Bronze. A big well done to all our Yorkshire swimmers.

During the year we have had 4 swimmers swim 100mtr front crawl in under a minute. This is the swimming equivalent of the sub 4 minute mile in athletics. Congratulations to Jack Waddington, Torin Wilson, Jamie Clarke and Caitlin Dixon.

Our AGM was held on the 4th April where officers and committee members were elected. As some of you may know, the Councils Leisure Services have now been passed to a Trust which became operative from the 1st April 2011. To comply with the Trust’s requirement to pay pool bills monthly we have decided to move to a monthly payment cycle for fees.

Fees for 2011/12 are due from the 1st May 2011 and the details are posted on our website and notice board. Our much preferred method of payment is by Standing Order. We will however ensure that a desk is manned on the first Wednesday and Friday of each month to take cash/cheques or provide you with Standing Order Mandate Forms. Please note that insurance is included in your fee so it is important that this is paid on time so that the insurance is not invalidated.

I hope you have found this newsletter helpful and that you have an enjoyable year with Armthorpe Swimming Club.
